THERE WAS A LOT OF TALK about a march and other events to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8.
It seems to me that several people missed the whole thing! They never heard of the march, or read in the newspapers what the unions and others were urging for the women who live in this country.
Lo and behold, on Monday morning between 7:30 and 8 I saw a young woman with a young baby trying to cross the road on Cheapside.
I decided to stop and see when the “gentlemen” and “ladies” sitting smugly in their chariots of war would allow her to cross.
Would you believe that she was not allowed to cross until the 18th chariot stopped? So much for International Women’s Day.
Where has all of the neighbourly help gone? Where has the help for the ladies in this country gone – especially a young lady with a baby, who seemed to be no more than one?
Have we not got any self-esteem, or do we have too much? Is it too much pride?
It was despicable, to put it mildly. I guess that it would have been the same if the rain was falling, because a leopard cannot change its spots.
Many people in this country act as if they will never get out of their chariots. These are the ones who would like the first vehicle to stop as soon as they start walking. Our females deserve better treatment than that.
Everyone who passed her by – you know who you are – should be ashamed, especially the females who would have gone to some rally or get-together to celebrate International Women’s Day.
I was not driving and it hurt me to see how callous my people could be to that young woman with her baby in hand one day after such a day.
