RICO WAZIR WALCOTT has eight derbies, a Gold Cup, and now he is setting his sights on riding in a Kentucky Derby.

The toast of the local sporting landscape over the weekend with his superb ride on Sayler’s Creek that landed him the Gold Cup, Walcott says his dream is to ride in the celebrated Kentucky Derby, run over the 1 1⁄4-mile (2.0 km) dirt track at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

“To ride in the Kentucky Derby would be special. It’s a big race. I have ridden in two Breeders Cup, but I am still to ride in the Kentucky Derby,” he said.

His Gold Cup triumph before a crowd that included National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, and Cabinet ministers Chris Sinckler, Stephen Lashley and Darcy Boyce, will elevate Walcott’s profile in the horse racing industry.
