YOUNG PEOPLE IN BARBADOS were yesterday called upon to join their counterparts throughout the Commonwealth in taking on the challenges that confront them.
National Youth Parliament member Saskia Singh and CARICOM Youth Ambassador Mosiah Hoyte implored youth to accept challenges and, like their peers in the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, make use of opportunities to build a better world.
Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave joined children from primary and secondary schools, youth organisations, diplomats, members of the local branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society and others, for the annual multi-faith service in observance of Commonwealth Day at St Leonard’s Anglican Church, where the two youth leaders spoke.
Focusing on this year’s Commonwealth Day theme A Young Commonwealth, Singh reminded young people they were viewed as assets. She called on them to make use of the technology uniting them in a global partnership to tackle common problems. (GC)
