The surfing fraternity has expressed concerns about possible harm to a major surf break in light of work being done on a beach restoration project.
On the Barbados Surfing Association’s (BSA) Facebook page, president Paul Bourne wrote: “The recent circulation of a notice advising the public that work will be commencing on a beach restoration project at Sandy Lane has raised grave concerns among the surfing and beach communities in Barbados.
“The BSA would like to inform all its members and friends that we are watching the situation carefully and that we are prepared to act in support of any initiative taken to protect one of our most iconic surf breaks. We will keep updates forthcoming as we know more.”
When contacted Bourne told THE NATION although he was concerned he didn’t quite know the extent of the work being done at the site.
“Basically, Sandy Lane is one of our best surf breaks in Barbados, so, obviously, any project that would jeopardise the surf break is going to raise concerns within the surfing community,” he said. (RG)
