MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, Works and Maintenance Dr William Duguid says he is tired and fed up of “fake taxis”. He has vowed to put an end to them shortly.

On Monday evening, he told the House of Assembly during the Estimates Debate that his ministry would look at stipulating that all taxis be appropriately marked with the word “taxi” on their sides, as well as having an appropriate sign atop the vehicles.

“We want to get rid of what I call fake taxis. That is a problem we have in this country . . . . There are people who apply for a taxi permit not to transport people from A to B, but they want the opportunity to get the duty-free car five years down the road. We are going to bring that to an end,” he declared while answering questions from his colleagues.

The Christ Church West MP also spoke of implementing a metering system for taxis as well as standardised rates. ( SDB Media)
