New Zealand pound Bajan Gems

Barbados Gems didn’t glitter or glow at the Vitality Netball World Cup in Liverpool yesterday as the New Zealand Silver Ferns sparkled with a lopsided 78-25 victory.

There was only a glimmer of gloss for the Gems in a fairly competitive first quarter but the Silver Ferns, in a dazzling display, polished off the hapless 11th-ranked Bajans by a whopping 53-goal margin.

It was an eighth straight victory for the Silver Ferns in World Cup contests against the Gems and they showed their quality by almost tripling their opponents’ score.

After a superb win against Singapore on Friday, Barbados entered the game with confidence but as the match progressed, they were outclassed by the ruthless four-time world champions. (EZS)
