SYDNEY – He floated like a butterfly and stung like AB!
A.B. deVilliers, probably the best batsman in the world at the moment, knocked out the West Indies with a ferocious punch reminiscent of Muhammad Ali and put on a dazzling display of batsmanship at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday.
It left West Indies speechless as they were stunned by a breathtaking array of shots and at one stage some fielders were even forced to applaud, with the South African captain relegating West Indies to being part of another record, but not a glorious one like they set against Zimbabwe last week.
He hit the fastest ever 150 in One-Day Internationals and took 64 deliveries to reach 150, beating the previous best, set by Australia’s Shane Watson by 19 balls.
De Villiers finished 162 not out from 66 balls as South Africa made 408-5, the second highest total in World Cups.
