TWO CONSTRUCTION companies located on Factory Road, Charnocks, Christ Church, have taken it upon themselves to repair that long stretch of road.
Robar Technology and MacGyver’s Construction got together and provided truckloads of marl to cover the road, which had become difficult to travel on because it was filled with potholes.
Enoch Legall, the managing director of MacGyver’s, said that the business was losing customers because of the terrible condition of the road.
“The road is very bad and it is giving us problems to travel on and we are not getting enough customers because when the customers come and they see the state of the road they turn away,” he said. “So we decided to put together and try to repair the road as best as we can, even though the financial crisis is also affecting us. We have to see what little we can do to make the road more passable.”
While two residents had also given them small donations, Legall said the two companies were supplying the marl, machinery and manpower.
“We are digging off the humps and bumps, filling in with marl and rolling and grading the road,” Legall said, as he pointed out that usually when it rained water remained in the potholes for days.
Different parliamentary representatives had promised over the years to repair the road, which leads to Coverley, he said.
“We even heard that there was a plan submitted to repair the road but that was never done. We were hoping in good faith that it would happen. It was damaging our trucks. We were getting a lot of broken springs and we had to be getting tyres more often than usual.”
Legall said that they would wait until the road was completed to estimate how much money was spent, but they had to do it for the survival of their businesses.
