West Indian cricket umpires have been urged not to allow technology to stop them from making decisions.
That advice came from Minister of Sport John King in his feature address during the 29th biennial West Indies Cricket Umpires Association’s (WICUA) convention, which began on Monday at Kensington Oval.
“I don’t ever want any of you as umpires to feel pressured to do your job by a camera that can record what is happening and is not required to make a decision in a split second,” King said as he spoke about the influence in which technology in the form of cameras had on the decisions of umpires.
King acknowledged that there is now a greater youth involvement in the field.
“I want to encourage you to continue promoting the field of umpiring because this opens up a new door for our young people; there is a whole range of opportunities which West Indies cricket has to offer to our young people,” he declared. (NU)
