LATE BARBADIAN ACADEMIC Sir Roy Marshall was praised by the Church of England’s first black Bishop Sir Wilfred Wood earlier today, for his scholarship and advocacy for rights of black people in Britain.
Paying tribute at Sir Roy’s funeral service at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral this morning, Sir Wilfred said many people in Barbados may not be fully aware of the massive contribution the late legal luminary and academic had made to the well-being of black people and others in Britain.
Sir Wilfred described his late friend as an “academic giant” and chided that Barbadians had not yet fully availed themselves of Sir Roy’s foresight, experience and scholarship.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Opposition Leader Mia Mottley and Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson were among prominent figures from the legal profession in attendance at the service.
Sir Roy, who died at age 94, will have a private cremation at a later date. (GC)
