CHRISTCHURCH – A highly paid Indian Premier League (IPL) coach and the mastermind behind the West Indies’ first defeat at the ICC Cricket World Cup are understandably the two front-runners for the position of head coach of the regional team.
Robin Singh and Phil Simmons, both aged 51, have been identified as two of the seven candidates that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has short-listed and are eyeing to take over the reins of the team, which has been without a head coach since Ottis Gibson was given his walking papers last year.
SUNSPORT has been reliably informed that not only are interviews winding down, but the WICB will make an announcement prior to the end of the World Cup and in time for the new head coach to take over in the West Indies/England series, which starts in Antigua on April 13.
