Bar Association against Inniss’ stand on CCJ

The legal fraternity is condemning a politician’s bemoaning the absence of a Barbadian on the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), charging that xenophobia is too prevalent in Barbados.

The Barbados Bar Association, ina Press statement yesterday, said an appointment based on nationality would perpetuate a xenophobic approach.

“To impose a criteria based on nationality, as suggested by the minister, is in the Bar’s opinion misguided and would be a step in the wrong direction. It would perpetuate a xenophobic approach which has been far too prevalent in Barbados,” the release read.
