THE BIG FURNITURE and household appliances company UNICOMER (Barbados) Limited – better known as Courts – today launched its 50th anniversary celebrations, announcing more than $120 000 in sponsorship of education, health and other causes.

Topping the list is a grant of $30 000 per annum to the University of the West Indies for 10 scholarships.

A one-time allocation of $37 000 in products and assistance was announced for the Child Care Board, while $20 000 will be going to a home maintenance programme in which Unicomer is cooperating with the government’s Urban Development Commission, which helps needy householders.

Unicomer also announced substantial aid packages for the Geriatric Hospital, the Barbados Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados, the Thelma Vaughan Home and the HIV/AIDS Food bank.

Two Government Ministers – Minister of Industry Donville Inniss and Minister of  Social Care Steve Blackett – addressed the launching ceremony at the Unicomer headquarters in Bridgetown, both praising the company’s business and charity programmes. (TY)
