CABINET MINISTER Senator Maxine McClean has said that laziness may be holding back some small businesses.
McClean, the Leader of Government Business in the Senate, used a speech in the chamber on Wednesday evening to chide small entrepreneurs for not exploring opportunities to get their goods into the hands of cruise passengers when they exit the Bridgetown Port.
In making a case for “national self-actualisation” as the island prepares to turn 50 next year, she challenged those concerned “to stop the griping” and “to stop harping on what has not been”.
She said: “There are myriad things out there in which people can take opportunity – you know what, we have become lazy, we have become unwilling to reach out and draw on ideas and, above all, we have become unwilling to become independent or to accept that Government cannot and should not do all.” (JS)
