THEY have lost five consecutive matches, but that has not dampened the spirit in the West Indies camp ahead of their final ICC Cricket World Cup encounter against Afghanistan at Headingley today.
It might be a bottom-of-the-table clash as they meet on a firm-looking pitch, before another sold-out crowd, but for the West Indies Afghanistan have consistently prevailed over them, winning three of the five encounters.
“Surprisingly, the mood in the camp is still good,” assistant coach Roddy Estwick said yesterday.
“The boys were on the bus playing dominoes (after the last defeat) and the spirit in the dressing room was tremendous. And that can only serve us well going forward. So we’re happy from that point of view.
“Obviously we’re not happy losing games, but we started to build something, and once we can remain patient, we can keep building. Young players are coming through, and once that keeps happening, then things will get a lot better,” he said.
