THERE IS a foe relentlessly creeping up on Barbados’ shores.
This enemy uses the island’s surrounding water to make its attacks. It cannot be stopped; it is difficult to remove once it lands, and it smells and looks awful.
Attempts have been made to combat this attacker and while battles are ongoing, the war is all but lost and this is being noticed by both locals and visitors.
This adversary is the sargassum seaweed, which even now coats the East Coast of the island.
At Bath beach, St John and Skeete’s Bay, St Philip, the incredible sight of the masses
of seaweed is matched only by the incredible stench, and is not recommended for those with delicate constitutions.
