THE FIRE BUG has left a family of five homeless.
The uninsured house at 1st Avenue Eckstein Village, St Michael was occupied by Michael Gilkes, his wife Karen and their three sons.
No one was at home when the fire started. Gilkes, a lifeguard with the National Conservation Commission, was at Brandon’s Beach when he got a call that his house was on fire.
An emotional Gilkes said he lived at the house for 25 years, did some repairs recently and was still repaying the bank.
Two other houses were slightly damaged. (LK)
