Mother, son on drug charges

MEMBERS OF THE Drug Squad have arrested and charged a mother and her son with several drug offences, including cultivation of cannabis.

Norma Veronica Hinkson, 52, and her son Denmar McCarthy Saffrey, 29, both of Smith Corner, Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church, have also been jointly charged with possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking.

Hinkson was slapped with an additional charge of ‘permitting premises to be used for handling a controlled drug to wit cannabis’.

Five cannabis plants were found growing on the premises when police executed a search warrant yesterday.

Both pleaded guilty to all charges when they appeared in the District A Magistrates Court yesterday.

Hinkson was fined $1 000 on the charge of trafficking, $1 000 on the charge of cultivation, and $1 500 on the charge of permitting premises to be used for handling a controlled drug.  

These fines are to be paid in six months or six months in prison. She was convicted, reprimanded and discharged (CRD) on the remaining charges.

Saffrey was fined $1 000 each for trafficking and cultivation. These fines are to be paid in four months or face six months in prison. He was CRD on the remaining charges. (PR/SAT)
