HOTELIER BERNIE WEATHERHEAD does not want to buy the former Almond Beach Village in St Peter.
Weatherhead, who now manages the facility and has reopened 168 of the hotel’s 400 rooms, which now boast 100 per cent occupancy, said buying the hotel was not his focus.
Speaking to the SUNDAY SUN in an exclusive interview, the hotelier disputed suggestions that he was not happy that the Heywoods property was sold to Jamaican hotel magnate Gordon “Butch” Stewart because he wanted to have the sprawling 32-acre facility within his Sun Group of companies.
Weatherhead said that suggestion was one “big misunderstanding in Barbados”, noting that it was never his intention to bid for ownership of the hotel, which was purchased by Government from Neal & Massy (now Massy Holdings) for $106 million. Of that amount, $6 million was shelled out for the Almond Resort brand and logo.
