A LOUD CRASH, followed by the screeching sound of galvanised sheets being dragged along the ground, shook the residents of Gills Gap, Eagle Hall, St Michael from their slumber around 1:55 this morning.
That was when a vehicle driven by Ricardo Hieralall of Grazettes, St Michael slammed into the bus shelter on Black Rock Main Road, mere feet away from the Black Rock Police Station.
“I hear the hit and I wonder if it was a truck with galvanise given the sound,” said a long-time Gills Gap resident.
“When I look out I didn’t see the bus stop. The police came out and they had to take the man out of the car because he was still sitting in it,” she said.
“If he had come up earlier, people would have been hurt because they would have been waiting for the 1 0’clock bus from Oistins. Thankfully, they were gone by then,” added the resident, who spoke anonymously.
According to police public relations officer, Assistant Superintendent David Welch, the force is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. (SP)
