Rashad Smith’s timely double salvaged a 2-2 draw for Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) in the first of their three-match Barbados Football Association’s Championship play-off against Weymouth Wales on Thursday night at the Wildey Turf.

Smith scored within the first ten minutes of the first half and the final ten of the second half to make sure Wales did not have a 1-0 advantage heading into Game 2 tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in the relegation play-off, ten-man Mark’s Auto Spares Porey Spring United valiantly safeguarded their Premier League status – for now, as staying up depends on a win in their next game –with a 2-1 extra time win over Youth Milan, who were subsequently demoted to Division 1 after a one season stay in the top flight this time around.

Smith benefited from some outstanding skill from Omani Leacock on the right wing to put BDFSP in the lead in the seventh minute. Leacock bamboozled his marker with his flashy footwork and delivered a perfect cross in the box to Smith, who held off Ricardio Morris to swivel and lash the ball into the goal.

Wales were awakened by that conceded goal and roared back almost immediately through Arantees Lawrence nine minutes later. Romario Harewood’s corner kick from the right found no takers in the box except the unmarked Lawrence at the back post
