Six Barbadians are among 15 players chosen to attend a Cricket West Indies (CWI) Emerging Players training camp in Antigua from May 27 to June 13 aimed at enhancing their skills in the limited-overs formats of the game.
They are fast bowlers Chemar Holder, Keon Harding and Dominic Drakes, left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop, all-rounder Shamar Springer and batsman Leniko Boucher.
Graeme West, programme manager of the West Indies High-Performance Centre, which is based at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, said the training camp, which is part of a new CWI thrust to invest heavily in player development at the youth level, is aimed at increasing the pool of white ball squads.
“The camp will be delivered by the CWI high-performance
team with a focus on developing the players’ white-ball skills and building on the potential the players have shown coming through the CWI pathway of youth and senior regional tournaments,” West said.
He added that a new agreement between CWI and the organisers of the region’s leading Twenty20 tournament will result in the youths, with the exception of Bishop, Harding and Keacy Carty, also using the training camp to prepare for this years Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Squad: Joshua Bishop, Leniko Boucher, Keacy Carty, Roland Cato, Dominic Drakes, Keon Harding, Chemar Holder, Amir Jangoo, Ramaal Lewis, Jeremiah Louis, Anderson Phillips, Jeavor Royal, Keagan Simmons, Odean Smith, Shamar Springer. (EZS)
