TWO BEACHES on the eastern side of Barbados have been nominated among the best in the Caribbean.

The Crane Beach in St Philip and the Soup Bowl in Bathsheba, St Joseph have made the cut among the final 20 in the region.

And it will be up to voters to decide which ones make the Top 10.

USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards calls readers to ‘Vote for the Best Caribbean Beach’.

“Powder soft sands, crystal clear turquoise waters, a toes-in-the-sand party or the perfect piña colada … what’s your vision of the perfect beach? January is prime season for Caribbean travel, and we need your help crowning the Best Caribbean Beach,” it states.

Their “panel of Caribbean travel experts” has narrowed the search and readers can vote once a day, every day until noon, February 2.

This is how the Crane Beach is described: “Located on the southeastern side of Barbados, secluded and pristine Crane Beach features dramatic natural scenery and plenty of gentle wave action for boogie boarding, body surfing or just splashing around in the Caribbean Sea.”

bathsheba-1Surfers have come from near and far to enjoy the waves at the Soup Bowl, and the travel writers have acknowledged this.

“A popular surfer haunt on the island of Barbados, picturesque Soup Bowl Beach gets its name from the foamy waves that make the spot so popular. Non-surfing visitors enjoy the stunning natural views, plenty of photo ops and a handful of beach bars perfect for a day of relaxation, piña colada in hand”.

The Crane and Soup Bowl are up against beaches in Aruba, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands, St Croix and Jamaica, among others.
