COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) – Sri Lanka recalled left-handed opener Dimuth Karunaratne for the Cricket World Cup and included fast bowler Lasith Malinga subject to a fitness test.

Most of the squad was already in New Zealand preparing for a seven-match One-Day international series starting on Sunday.

Karunaratne has not played an ODI since December 2013, but he was part of the squad that won the recent home series against England 5-2, and scored his maiden Test century in the first Test against New Zealand last month.

Kusal Perera, who was earmarked to open with Tillakaratne Dilshan, was dropped because of poor scores.

Malinga has been out of the national team since September, when he underwent surgery on his left ankle.

Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews (captain), Lahiru Thirimanne, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Dinesh Chandimal, Dimuth Karunaratne, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Malinga (subject to fitness), Dhammika Prasad, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake.
