IT WAS FOUL-UPS, bloopers, bleeps and blunders – the Kolij edition.
Oh, and there was basketball too.
The best of Harrison College basketball over the ages returned to give their fans one final send-off, and what a show it was, as Saeed Norville had 33 points to lead a select Blue Team to a highly-entertaining 98-94 All-Star victory over Team White at Crumpton Street yesterday.
The scoresheets will say that Blue were the eventual victors, but the real winners were the countless old scholars who turned out to the Clash of the Decades finale featuring the best of the out-of-season tourney.
And the players wasted no time in putting on a show, whether impressively or comically, with renowned personality Andrew Pilgrim clowning around on the court after shooting a “no-look” jumper before picking up the mic to amuse the spectators even further.
Joel Hunte went one step better by accidentally throwing an alley-oop pass straight into the ring while a number of behind-the-back dimes and no-look tosses went flying off the floor.
But the game did witness some serious action, most notably eye-popping slams from opposing wingmen Norville and Runako Boyce, who got his share of oohs and aahs with his trademark two-hand tomahawk finishes.
Not that the show was limited to high-flying action, as elite ball-handler Anand Joseph-Thorne wowed just as much while flashing one-hand dimes everywhere after also dazzling with some nifty dribbles in the open floor.
At one point Joseph-Thorne went for successive up-and-under lefty layups before firing a no-look southpaw pass to an unmarked Glyne “Harry” Harrison underneath.
Not even former national coach Adrian “A” Craigwell was to be left out of the fun, throwing no-look dimes of his own on the break while leading Team Blue on a run of transition scores.
No basket, though, was better than Joseph-Thorne’s pinpoint lob to a soaring Boyce, who calmly collected the ball on the baseline before finishing the toss with a ferocious two-handed flush.
Yet that went all for naught as Norville came up with a clutch steal and score in the final minute before Hunte finished an out-of-bounds alley from Craigwell to seal the win.
Hunte finished with 17 points for Team Blue, who got a further 16 and 11 points from Raj Edwards and Ramon Blackman, respectively. Joseph-Thorne and Ricky Wiltshire led White with 18 points apiece while Boyce added 13.
Earlier, referee Roderick Massiah beat Hunte to win the three-point shoot-out, while Blackman was crowned the dunk-out champ after getting the better of a high-flying field of Norville, Boyce, Hunte, Greig Springer and Nikolai Burton.
