FLYING FISH & COU COU: Retired – with perks

Date:

Share post:

EMPLOYEES AT A certain organisation are wondering why their retired colleague has been allowed to hold onto the company’s car and can still get gas paid for by the company.

They want to know how come, if the person is no longer working at the organisation, this situation should be allowed while, at the same time, the individual who has taken over the retiree’s position continues to drive their own vehicle to work.

The employees said this benefit afforded the retiree is similar to the privileges given to another retired person in a similar organisation. In that case, the retiree still occupies their old office and also uses the company vehicle.

In other words, that person is gone in employment status and public perception but still remains very active in the organisation.

What these employees would like to see is the appointment of new leadership at their organisation to resolve this matter and other pressing personnel concerns.

Statutory non-cooperation

FRUSTRATED WORKERS at a statutory board have supposedly written their minister complaining about the actions of their chairman.

They are alleging that the chair works closely with a number of the executive administration staff, excluding the boss and, because of this, has the whole organisation in turmoil. They contend the place is coming apart at the seams because the chair and boss don’t get along.

According to the disgruntled workers who sent Cou Cou a copy of the letter addressed to their minister, a particular officer has the gumption to terrorise staff that she does not particularly care for because she is a friend of the chair.

The workers detailed incidents and called names of employees who suffered at the hands of this officer, whom they described as very bombastic.

They also said confidentiality is a joke, as even what happened at board meetings comes out.

One example they gave is that the boss apparently questioned why the “bombastic” officer should get a loan from the company. The fact that the boss queried it was made known and helped to further undermine the strained working relationship between the two.

These unhealthy goings-on have led some workers to stage a sick-out and to the papers the organisation processes for the public being delayed by nearly three months in some instances.

The workers want the minister to deal with this bad situation urgently.

Rumours running

THE RUMOURS CONTINUE to circulate as to who will be moved to which portfolio in the widely expected Cabinet shuffle by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

Like you, Cou Cou is hearing things. Some are ridiculous; while others, though practical, seem too far-fetched.

As Cou Cou prides itself in giving you the backstory, we would not even get involved in any speculation. We will, however, relate thoughts of some stakeholders as expressed to us.

The primary thing these people want is a change of guard at the Ministry of Finance. They want Chris Sinckler gone because under his tenure the economy and fiscal situation has gone from bad to worse.

They want the Prime Minister to take over this portfolio as they feel this would send a signal that the Government considers restoring the economy as job number one.

For them the buck stops at the Prime Minister. Therefore, he should rise to the occasion and take it on.
