OFFICERS OF THE HOMICIDE BUREAU of Investigations are looking into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two men which took place during separate incidents yesterday morning in Arima and Petit Valley.
According to police reports, at about 4.30 a.m. yesterday, residents of the Cocoa Jah community heard several loud explosions.
Upon investigating they came across the body of Kern Samuel, 20, of Redhill, Petit Valley. Next to him was Jovaughn Monsegue, of Church Street, Petit Valley.
Monsegue was bleeding from multiple gunshot injuries to his upper chest. However, Samuel was dead.
The police and emergency health services were notified and Monsegue was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
Police said Samuel appeared to have been shot several times about his upper body as well, and that his face had been smashed in with a brick.
At least 15 spent shells were said to have been recovered from the scene.
Then in an unrelated incident, at about 5 a.m., police received information that the body of a man had been seen lying on the ground behind the Mickey Trotman Sporting Facility and Recreational Grounds at Pinto Road, Arima.
A party of officers, led by Inspector Ali visited the scene and they soon found the body of a man who appeared to have a chop wound to the side of his head and shoulder.
Officials from the Homicide Bureau were then notified and a party of officers inclusive of crime scene investigators visited the scene.
The victim was later identified as 59-year-old Arthur Noel.
Police say he usually frequented the area and has no regular place of abode.
Both incidents have pushed the murder toll up to 401, according to officials from the Homicide Bureau.
Although what appeared to be marks of violence were discovered on a decomposing body along San Fernando Hill on Christmas Eve, that incident has yet to be classified as a murder as officials are awaiting further identification as well as an autopsy report.
The body is believed to be that of 31-year-old Robert Navarro of Ambard Street, San Fernando.
The 31-year-old man has reportedly been missing since December 9, but relatives who visited the scene of the incident on Wednesday night reportedly identified the body via a tattoo which Navarro was known to have. (Express)
