Income tax returns trickling out

TAXPAYERS ARE GETTING their income tax refunds bit by bit.

In the last days leading up to Christmas Day, some Barbadians received the long-awaited monies by cheque or direct deposits.

It was another batch from the thousands who have been eagerly awaiting their returns since filing in April.

Erica Lazare, communication specialist with the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA), said that the money was continuously being sent out as the cash came to hand.

However, she could not say at how many had received their returns or how many were still awaiting their money.

“People have been receiving their income tax refunds all along. I don’t know how many so far. We have been continuously giving refunds by cheque or direct deposits to accounts,” Lazare said.

Government’s cash flow problem has been affecting the ability of a number of its agencies to conduct business, including BRA. For months laid off and almost broke Barbadians have been clamouring for their returns but so far only a small number have received them. (AC)
