MAKE THAT ANOTHER success for Slam-A-Dom.

The Christmas season was particularly joyful for director Rodney Inniss, so much so that the event coordinator plans to make the Banks Christmas Dominoes in the City an annual tournament.

Inniss expressed the sentiment after witnessing over 300 players turn out last weekend for three successive days of competition by Palmetto Square, directly behind the Parliament buildings.

“I thought it was superb. All the vendors and everyone said they loved it because it brought life to town and even the players are saying we should not have it just once a year, so this was rewarding to us,” said Inniss.

“Even [Leader of the Opposition] Mia Mottley said she was so impressed with the organisation saying we should make it an even bigger competition. We didn’t have a bar as we were in partnership with Old City Bar, Stephen’s Bar and Margaret’s Food Court.

“Last year people really wanted it but it takes a lot of sponsorship, as we had a lot of giveaways and cash prizes, but this is what Slam-A-Dom is all about. We want the best players to come out so we give out the best prizes to attract the best.

It was the second time in three years the Slam-A-Dom organisers staged the tournament by Palmetto Square, where domino players can walk in off the street and play under tents for total prize money of over $2 000.

Robert Applewaithe walked away with the first prize in the three-hand competition, with Lemuel “Pine Boy” Smith and Gregory Fergusson placing second and third respectively.

In the four-hand pull-a-rama, Neville Prescod, Whitfield Springer, Stephenson Brathwaite and Ryan Niles decided to split the top prizes among themselves after the final table went far into the third and final night.

Theo Chandler, Richard Cheeseman, Stephen Waldron and Delisle Parris also decided to share that competition’s other prizes when their table went deep into the night as well.
