THE MARTIN’S ANGLICAN Church at St Martin’s St Philip was transformed into a sanctuary of praise as hundreds turned out to say goodbye to an icon earlier this morning.

The occasion was to say goodbye to 89-year-old Sylvia Bushelle, a long-serving deputy principal and eventual principal of the Industry High School situated at Heddings, St Philip.

The large response to the 10 a.m. service showed that “Miss Sylvie’s” influence in the classroom spread far and wide.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart was among those who paid their last respects, along with Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education Senator Harry Husbands.

Other familiar faces included past student Stedson RPB Wiltshire, former chief education officer Ralph Boyce, former principal of Graydon Sealy Secondary School Matthew Farley and Oliver Cox  of the Metropolitan School.

The body of Bushelle was interred at the Westbury Cemetery. (JS)
