White should be the wear of the day when the first National Cultural Foundation (NCF) event prior to the official start of the 2019 Crop Over Festival, will be held today at the NCF car park, West Terrace, St James, from 4 p.m.
It will be the first of the six community-oriented HOTT BAJARAMA events, building momentum to the festival with the countdown to the official public launch on June 8.
“We are looking for a sea of white [today];this is a cause that everybody can stand behind,” said NCF chief executive officer Carol Roberts-Reifer.
“Crop Over is not only a season of unity, music, party and revelry for us, but it continues to be a period of strong economic growth for the country. Its enormous entrepreneurial potential, the employment opportunities generated not only in the cultural industries but across a number of contributing industries, and the influx of visitors it attracts that bring with it an increase in foreign exchange, makes this festival one of the important economic drivers.
“We need this festival, we need this cultural tourism product and there is nary a chance that we can let anything threaten to destroy it,” she added.
Those performing at this free event include Peter Ram, who is also expected to be a MC/host. He will be sharing the stage with Teshia Hinds. (PR/SP)
