Health authorities last night dismissed rumours that there was an Ebola case in the country but confirmed there were two people with malaria fever.
The potentially deadly malaria is transmitted via mosquitoes and the symptoms include fever, fatigue, vomiting and headaches, and in particularly severe cases yellow skin, seizures, coma or death.
In a Press release from the Ministry of Health, which cited Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John, health officials, without disclosing the name, age, sexes or nationalities of the two people, revealed they were patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
It said “any rumour of an Ebola case in Barbados is untrue”, but that two people tested positive for malaria fever after they presented themselves at the hospital. (BGIS/AC)
