THE DOMINICA LABOUR PARTY (DLP) has won a historic fourth consecutive term in office following today’s General Election.

Tonight, the DLP won 15 of the 21 seats in Parliament, while the United Workers Party (UWP), led by Lennox Linton, took the other six.

And in an address to the nation, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit called for unity.

Skerrit said he was very proud to have made history with a fourth term, and the DLP would work to deliver the promises made in their manifesto.

He appealed to his supporters, as well as those from the UWP to put their election differences aside, as they were working to build a country for everyone.

roosevelt-skerritSkerrit said it was a time for “reconciliation”, “patriotism”, and “unity”; to grow the economy; to boost manufacturing and services; to spread the entrepreneurship culture; to create more wealth for the people; to grow tourism and diversify agriculture.

Even as he called for celebrations to continue until after Christmas, Skerrit urged people to take it easy tonight. He said tomorrow would not be a national holiday because there have been six weeks of election celebrations and it was time to get back to work.

The Prime Minister-elect said he would update Dominicans on a date for the official swearing-in of the government tomorrow. (SAT)
