It was a frightening experience but injured Barbados cricketer Omar Phillips is hoping to bat for his country again in the New Year.
However, Phillips, who was discharged from the Milton Cato Hospital in St Vincent yesterday morning after being kept overnight for observation, says he will be ensuring the necessary medical tests are completed before returning to the crease.
Phillips returned home yesterday and was greeted at the Grantley Adams International Airport by his father, Hugh Mayers, interim Barbados Cricket Association chief executive officer David Deane and chairman of selectors Hendy Wallace.
Non-striker Phillips was hit in the head by a ball struck by his partner Shai Hope on Friday’s opening day of Barbados Pride’s Professional Cricket League first-class match against the Windward Islands Volcanoes at Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
He was unconsciousness for a short period and will now undergo further tests by a specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
