The 32nd running of the Powerade Run Barbados 10K series promised to be a two-man contest.

In the end, it was all about defending champion Richard Kessio, the tall long-striding Kenyan, winning by more than two minutes, crossing the wet finish line in front of Government headquarters on Bay Street in 31 minutes, 41.17 secs.

Two African runners held sway for the first sway of the race that took Caribbean runners in and around the capital Bridgetown. Kessio and Disi Dieudonne of Rwanda broke clear of the pack early and ran side by side on the stretch along Hincks street and were well clear of the field on the Spring Garden Highway.

Kenya, an east African country with a tradition of excellence in long distance running, had a clean sweep of the top prizes with Leah Kigen, a 35-year-old mother of four, winning the women’s competition.
