Open Campus targets males

The University of the West Indies’ Open Campus thinks it may have the answer to getting more males into college education.

Management is hoping that new programmes under consideration – including web design and development and cybersecurity – will encourage them to sign up.

Male enrolment at leading tertiary institutions is way below that of females, with the Barbados Community College the latest to draw attention to the lopsidedness.

“We have some programmes that we are now thinking about and these ones we think are the most exciting,” director of the academic programming and delivery division (APAD) of the Open Campus, Dr Joel Warrican, told reporters yesterday. (TY)
