Hit parade

WERE THERE a prize for the most impressive detachment at the Independence Day Parade, it would have to be the Royal Barbados Police Force Band.

A spectacle though it is, having seen it so often, it is the subtle little things which make the parade to celebrate Barbados’ Independence stand out, and the men and women in the Police Band did just that yesterday.

Parading with their instruments, they were in perfect time as they marched around the parade square in the Bridgetown Port to the strains of some of the more popular soca tracks, including Pankatang, Can’t Be Over, De Pledge and Nice Time.

The band was also featured during a display where they executed a drill in various formations. A group from Dancin’ Africa, dressed in the national colours of ultramarine, yellow and black, joined them for a choreography to Peter Ram’s De Pledge.
