Aziza gets bail, curfew

Entertainer Aziza Kebret Tsgaye Clarke was released on $20 000 bail today and put on a curfew.

The 23-year-old of Unit 4 Bonnets, Brittons Hill, St Michael was also ordered to check in daily with the police and surrender her travel documents to the court as part of her bail conditions.

Clarke re-appeared before Magistrate Graveney Bannister in the Bridgetown Traffic Court on seven charges allegedly committed on March 21.
Along with the charge of assisting an offender – Hakeem Roberto Stuart – the former calypso monarch is also accused of assaulting a policeman in the execution of his duty, resisting arrest, committing criminal damage, failing to stop at the sound of the police siren, failing to register vehicle –MC92 and using a vehicle without having an insurance policy on March 21, along Graeme Hall, Christ Church.

Clarke, who was on remand since March 30, was granted bail following an application by her attorney Michael Lashley, QC and her matters were transferred to the Oistins Magistrate’s Court for May 3. She has a 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

Twenty-one-year-old Hakeem Roberto Stuart of Shelbourne Gap, St Lawrence, Christ Church is charged with the murder of Damian Trotman of Foursquare, St Philip and recklessly or unlawfully discharging a firearm in a public place -Sheraton Centre – that placed a number of people in danger of death or serious bodily harm. Trotman was shot in the courtyard of the Sheraton Centre. (AC)
