MENTION THE WORD landslide in Barbados and instantly the village of White Hill, St Andrew, comes to mind.
That’s because over the past three decades very few locations in Barbados would have been more consistently in the news because of this phenomenon than this stretch of hillside residences nestled snuggly in the bosom of the Scotland District.
Without doubt it is a place of absolute rustic beauty with breath-taking views of the east coast of the island, but for all its beauty it has been a source of constant headache for residents, constituency representatives and ministers of transport and housing.
So when recent landslides brought on by heavy rains provoked strident cries from residents for relocation it really amounted to the continuation of a collective plea that is several decades old.
The heat now on Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley is no different from what many who held the office before him felt.
