Convicted for cocaine

GUYANESE NATIONAL Rochelle Amanda Gibson began serving a nine-month sentence today at HMP Dodds after being convicted on four drug charges.

When she appeared in Magistrates Court today, the 23-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of 1/2 pound of cocaine, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Gibson was fined $20 000 each forthwith for importation and trafficking or nine months in prison. She was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the other two counts. The fines were not paid.

Gibson arrived in Barbados on Saturday from Guyana and was interviewed by police after clearing Immigration at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

She was referred to Customs and the taped package of cocaine, which had been hidden in a body cavity, was handed over to police. (PR/SAT)
