Members of Barbados’ team to the 2019 CARIFTA Games returned home from the Cayman Islands to cheers of approval last night.

The young athletes were greeted by family and friends, coaches and principals at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Minister of Sport John King and chairman of the National Sports Council, Mac Fingall, were also among the welcome party.

King pledged government support.

“I am sure that with the discussion with the National Sports Council, we will be able to lend the type of support that you need to at least get you to get to the next level,” he said.

The Barbados team won 11 medals – 3 gold and four each of silver and bronze.

Perennial champions Jamaica topped the tables with 36 gold, 33 silver and 16 bronze for 85 medals. (SAT)
