Preying priests

Instead of preaching to the elderly, many priests, pastors and church leaders are among the main culprits fleecing old people of their possessions.

A financial expert with a vast background in banking, credit card and regulatory experience, a law enforcement officer, and the head of an advocacy group for the elderly agreed that those in whom the most trust is placed in society are the ones stealing thousands from Baby Boomers – the hard-working savers born between 1946 and 1964.

The revelation came out of a workshop designed to help senior citizens spot the dangers from predators who target them because of their trusting and forgiving nature.

Participants in the workshop, Know The Signs: Together We Can Prevent Cyber Crime, drawn mainly from Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) members, were warned in particular about a pastor, who one facilitator described as a “serial killer”, still on the loose tricking old people into signing over their properties to him before dumping them in homes and selling off their homes, and keeping the money.
