THE DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY (DLP) is on the road to rebuilding, recruiting members and appointing spokespersons in the aftermath of its crushing defeat in the May 24, 2018 general elections.

President Verla De Peiza told the NATION yesterday about 150 people had joined up in the last 11 months, a sign of progress.“We do not want to waste time wallowing in self-pity. We’ve had that. It’s now time to get up, having acknowledged what our flaws were, and start on the process of rebuilding.

“We have fresh blood and we intend to use them as much as possible in the rebuilding process. It’s not only the potential of having new candidates but other vital roles being filled. Candidates are just the persons to the forefront but in order for them to function, there needs to be several more people behind them, supporting them and making things happen; and they are just as important as those to the front,” she said.

The spokespersons are Andre Worrell on issues relating to the environment and agriculture, George Connolly on technology and innovation, Guyson Mayers on legal affairs, Ryan Walters on business and Nicholas Alleyne on transportation, while De Peiza will speak on financial and economic matters.
