MORE THAN 7 000 cannabis plants were seized by police yesterday during a joint eradication programme which took place in several rural parishes.
Overall, 7 412 cannabis plants were seized, with the biggest haul being in Cliff Cottage, St John where police discovered 3 033 plants, the tallest being 12 feet.
Plants as high as seven feet were among the 2 190 seized in Vaughn’s Land, St Joseph and some as tall as 18 feet were found in Pot House, St John where the haul numbered 1 092 plants. Pollards, St Philip had 1 088 plants growing and nine were found in Claybury, St John.
Two men were arrested and charged with possession of a small quantity of the drug.
They are 56-year-old Whitfield Walcott (no-fixed-place-of-abode) and Junior Moore, 39, of Walkers, St George, who has also been charged with driving an uninsured vehicle and having no driver’s licence.
They are expected to appear in the District C Magistrates Court tomorrow.
The operation was carried out by members of the Drug Squad, with support from the Special Services Unit, Anti-Gun Unit, Police Marine Unit and the Barbados Defence Force.  (PR/SAT)
