HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGERS are a lot more important to companies and the island than their ranking would suggest.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made this comment today during a symposium and exhibition of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados at the Radisson Aquatica Resort.
Stuart said he was concerned that human resource managers were ranked far below the financial controller in the scheme of things but it was the HR managers who dealt with the country’s most important resource – labour.
He told the meeting that HR managers were important not only for the success of the agencies where they worked but for the development and progress of the country.
President of the association Glenda Gilkes complained that too often HR managers were seen as “record-keepers” rather than people whose opinions should be considered in a company’s decision-making process. (TY)
