Environment Minister Dr Denis Lowe threatened to resign from Cabinet before he would co-sign any legislation on same-sex unions.
He was reacting to suggestions from Opposition Barbados Labour Party candidate Wilfred Abrahams, his political rival for the Christ Church East constituency, that same-sex unions should be brought under the umbrella for domestic violence legislation.
Lowe said he was “a person of faith” and would never accept it.
While some online readers agreed with Dr Lowe, many felt his focus at this time should be on rectifying the problems which are plaguing his ministry.
Santini More: Let’s not get side tracked here. The garbage is piling up around the country, flooding is worse than ever because the drains are blocked with crap, the bushy land is totally out of control. All of this is allowing rats and mosquitoes to breed like crazy. THESE are the things I expect the Minister of Environment to be making pronouncements on. Anything else is just a red-herring!

Lance Skeete: I agree with you 100% Mr Lowe, but that’s not the point right now. My garbage is too much now in front of my house and I think it’s unfair that I’m paying $375 in solid waste tax and can’t get this garbage move.

Joanne Jordan: Violence is violence and should be abhorred. You cannot go around thinking that some citizens are more equal than others and more deserving of protection under the law because they fit into your value system.
