Dispute over to Chief Labour Officer

THERE’S A NEW development in the dispute between the Barbados Community College (BCC) and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

In a release issued today, BCC principal Dr Gladstone Best said the college had referred the matter to the Chief Labour Officer, Vincent Burnett.

He said the impasse had an adverse effect on both students and staff.

“Consequently BCC has referred the industrial dispute to the Chief Labour Officer in an effort to secure industrial peace and harmony by utilising the acceptable machinery and procedure for the investigation and settlement of industrial disputes.

“The management of the college is of the view once the parties accept that there are management rights and workers’ rights, and utilise the protocols that are in place for grievance handling and dispute, settlement, industrial peace and respect will be maintained, “the statement said. (PR/NB)
