US$42M demand

Pay up US$42 million in 15 days or face the possibility of legal action!

That’s the ultimatum the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) yesterday.

In a strongly-worded letter, the BCCI spelt out in no uncertain terms the huge financial fallout it faces following what it termed a unilateral decision by the WICB to terminate a recent tour because of the refusal of Caribbean players to make themselves available.

“The consequences on the BCCI of not delivering a scheduled home tour to its members, sponsors, broadcasters and the fans are multifold and crippling,” BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel wrote in the four-page letter to WICB president Dave Cameron.” (HG)
