Open Mic Thursdays at Hilton Barbados in The Grille Restaurant was not the same October 2, as D ARTS LIME and its posse took it over by storm.

Selena REBEL GLAM Dodson, founder of D ARTS LIME, a free haven for performers to express and showcase their talents, decided to hold the final free lime at a bigger location outside of their usual spot at Jagos Bar & Grill in Paynes Bay, St James.

“D ARTS LIME has always been about giving Barbadian artistes and artists a much needed platform to express themselves,’ said Dodson. “I started D ARTS LIME with that goal in mind and now I want to take it a step further,” she said.

Dodson said that the move to making the lime a paid one was in order to further assist artistes’ in their work.

“Nothing in life is free. That said, having a small cover charge keeps the lime going in ways such as giving our featured artistes something to put into their pockets, along with covering other expenses, which keeps the lime afloat and helps it to grow,” she said.

Dodson, a wife, mother of two, a chef and an artiste herself, said there were times where she felt like quitting, but it was her love of the arts and a sturdy support base that kept her pushing through.

“A lot of times I felt like just closing D ARTS LIME for good and moving on, but what keeps me going is the overwhelming support from my fellow artists and how much potential it has to help local talent,” said Dodson.

She continued, “Me being an artiste myself, I understand the struggle, so I feel that any way I can help ease that struggle and get our talent noticed and out there, I will do it.”

The lime featured D ARTS LIME alumni including Glendon Jones, Triple X, Junior Lyrical Hinds, Passion Poet, SUNROKK and Rhy Minister along with fresh talent like Mariposa, Khalid Batson, Barry Reid, Vince, Jody Smith, Marcus King and Eunique Gaim.

The group Evablaze also performed as Open Mic Thursdays’ featured guest performers.
