Barbadians are being put on guard against a scam known as mystery shopping.

In the legitimate form of mystery shopping, people are recruited by companies to carry out surveys which enable organisations to gauge customer service and other aspects of the business’ operation or products. The mystery shoppers are paid for their survey activity. It is common in the United States and people use it as a means to earn extra cash, while the Internet can be a source of recruitment for people to do the job.

But the business has been tainted by scams, and president of the Barbados Bankers Association, Donna Wellington, told the Nation yesterday scamming might have reached the island.

Speaking at the launch of theassociation’s Code of Banking Practices, Wellington said Barbadians should be aware of the scammers who might be operating here.(GC)
